Combo problems: daiden housui and singlepalm+elbow

    Hello!

For some time I used to take suboptimal choices for my Daiden Housui (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif) combos: for heavys and mid-heavys I was just going for PP PK and PP K+G P for the others.

    However, I now moved to the proper /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif~/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif.

I get this most of the time but sometimes, instead of the overhead smash that should bounce the opponent, I get the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif you'd get against a downed opponent. Is it poor inputs on my part or is the enemy to close to the ground and therefore I was just too late in doing the combo?

Also, I want to improve my consistency in getting the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif. Is there anything in particular to look out to get the timing right? Noises, particular frames of the animation? I noticed that if I press the P button very quickly/lightly for the first time, then it is easier to get the full move.

    Any ideas?

    There is a rule regarding how to prevent getting down attacks, like your problem with 3P there. It has to do with whether you return the stick to neutral before you hit punch. However, it's a technique I don't use myself, so I don't remember whether you want to hold the direction or not to prevent the down attack;;

Sorias is right. You have to return the stick to neutral after the jab. So just let go of it for a second, then do the 43p to relaunch. As for consistently getting single palm to elbow, you have to commit it to muscle memory. There is no other way. I advise going into sparring mode and just practice it until you have it... then continue to do this everyday. Soon it will be in your fingers instead of your mind.

The thing about it is you have a 3 frame window to hit the punch in. No way to do it unless you have th timing down. I can do it pretty much 100% if I do it by hitting 336p,p ("instant" way of getting it to come out), but the problem is that timing varies if you want to do it out of something like a 2p and go straight into it. You have to either delay the first hit, or delay the second hit (if you want to do the first hit immediately after 2p hits), so I tend to miss it a lot there. Hitting it out of a jab on mc or something is a lot easier, since the crouch dash takes time, and by the time I hit 6p, It is almost the same as if I was doing it out of no move.... hmm if that's the case, I MIGHT want to try doing a crouch dash motion into it even after I hit 2p... I've never thought of this....

About /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif~/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif yes, the only way is to practise practise practise! I can do it almost 100% of the time and its pure muscle memory now. I dont watch the opponent or the hit confirm at all.

If you need to look for something when practising, then watch Akiras stance(dont look at opponent) watch when he has finished stepping forward doing the singlepalm, imagine the elbow coming out with your minds eye, press P and it will come out! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Imagine pressing P just before the elbow starts to come out.

About /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, to give a goal I believe the max damage against Akira/Jacky is /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif - /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif - Dragonlance. Against Wolf/Jeffry the max damage is /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif - /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif - Double palm but this is very tight and difficult and requires buffered double palm.

Actually there is a way to get it down that can help you. Get it to come out once. Then listen to the two sounds Akira makes. He makes one for the single palm, and another sound for the elbow. THAT is the spacing. You have to get that sound in your head, and do it with your fingers, even though it won't match the sounds he is making from the screen. Try imagining the sound in your head AS you press the buttons to make up for the fact that it won't match the sound from your tv. For most just frames, the timing is the same as their sounds, but usually you have to enter it before you see it coming on the screen.

No one has tried the combo i posted in the other thread?

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif.

The very difficult part is doing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif wtith the right timing after the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, if the timing is wrong the final /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif misses and the combo is wasted. But if it connects than DLC also connects. The incomplete version does great damage, i would like someone to try it with the complete DLC. At the moment i've tested it in Dojo against Kage.

Guys, thank you all for the help.

I didnt know about that the neutral position of the joystick mattered. However, when I do the jab before the overhead smash I do not keep forward pressed (but I do G cancel the jab to avoid /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif comign out): is this wrong?

For the single palm into dashing elbow I'll paractice more. I've had the game for osme 2 months now and there has been some improveent to the point I know WANT to be able to use this move in the game. In the dojo I get it very often, say a good 75% of the time. However, like some other moves, when it comes to pull it off against an opponent, consistency goes down the drain.
But yeah, I'll just practice until nausea. I do like spending time in the dojo, I just wish one could practice using the other stages too...

    : (

    Thanks again for the help!

    69 which is 1 point less than the standard max damage combo /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif - /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif - /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif - /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif - /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
Nice combo though. Your combo doesnt seem to work on Jacky/Akira.

However, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif - /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif - /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif works on Jacky/Akira and seems to do the same damage as the combo I listed. Cool.

Another nice combo to do on Wolf/Jeff is
    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif - /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif - double palm.

For some reason I hate all combos that end in DLC. I just love Oki so much, that it seems pointless to take an extra 1 or 2 pts of damage when you are leaving on the table the chance to do much more by either down punching them afterward if they don't tech roll after something like pk (gives the BEST oki) or dbl plm (personally, I prefer pk), or pressuring with 46p+k, 66p+kp, or throw. IMO, DLC combos should only ever be used if you know you are going to kill them with it and you want the style pts. Otherwise, it is flash with questionable benefits.

Don't G cancel before the 43p. It isn't necessary, and in a lot of cases can result in you not bouncing them at all, since the relaunch won't be coming out at fastest timing. You want to buffer the relaunch INTO your jab. There is virtually zero chance of another p coming out, simply from the time it takes to input the two directions (unless you feel the need to practice your maximum input speed for no reason).

DLC combos can also be used to carry opponent to end of ring or wall. Recently in online I fought an Eileen at Jeffrys open stage, and straight off the start of round I did:
    Crouch dash to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif (stagger) -> (she recovers and blocks) -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif -> Dragonlance -> ring out. I find that kinda nasty. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I dont normally pay attention to the arcadia articles because they tend to have slightly outdated info... The combo, while easy and useful, is not max damage against the three characters listed. On the other hand we are just talking about 1-2 extra points added, so /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Manji, that sounds a tad arrogant /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif I posted the article back in October 2007. Was it outdated then? It was certainly news to me when noodalls sent the translation through.

Sure, some information in these articles may get outdated eventually, but I don't think that's a reason to not pay attention to them.

Never know what you may have missed, or even forgotten!

My post was in reply to ROFL75 in case he had missed the article, and I'm sure there are many people in the same boat.

Hehe, well I didnt mean to sound arrogant... I guessI came across as one. Stupid finnish habits of being too direct. Anyway, Danny posted his thread in 8th of october so yes, the arcadia info WAS outdated back then. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif Plus theres a few things that I have found better alternatives myself to as well. Im not saying one shouldn't read the arcadias, I just meant that it annoys me personally when theres something in form of a guide and there are mistakes in it. Makes you wonder if there are mistakes in the areas you cannot confirm yourself... I know you cant fix those wiki entires either since they are direct translations and if you fix the text then it wouldnt be direct translation..

Usually you can only do 1 p,then relaunch, but this juggle does more damage while ALSO giving the best oki (you can substitute dbl palm of course if you want the unnecessary 1 pt of damage and slightly worse oki). Saw a random Japanese guy do it on me, and I quickly stole it. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I think the best Oki is given by /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, which is usually what I do with light and middle people after a Daiden Housui and a double punch (except Brad, dunno why it doesn't work with him) when I don't feel like risking the usual bouncer combo.

Incidentally, does anybody else think that the weight system is absolutely unrealistic? How on earth can Shun Di weight more than Brad or Goh?

Re: Combo problems: daiden housui and singlepalm+e

I can triple p bounce Shun. I can only single p bounce brad. I can triple p bounce Goh. I'm not getting the same weight info you are.

Also, when I said gives the best oki, I mean time to set up the pressure from when you end the combo. pk gives the best oki because they are floating in the air for a while, so you get a bit of a breather to prepare whatever you want, or if they don't tech roll, plenty of time to dash in for a down punch attack.
