Remember that you live in a capatilistic society. Mortal Kombat may be a terrible videogame by any standards, but it has been an extremely lucrative franchise, and in today's videogame business, successful franchises are all that sell. As long as "casual" impule-buy gamers buy Mortal Kombat and Tomb Raider and Deer Hunter and the lke, developers will make them.

I thought MK1 and 2 were good for their time. I still play MK2 occaisionally today. Of course after that it all went downhill.

Believe it or not I'm actually curious to see what they'll do with 5.
