Pai's lunge kick!

I was watching the dvd movies of turbo pai today and i saw him do then + and the damage was kinda harsh, then i tried it and only managed to do it once. Anybody know how to do it more consistenly.

 

It's by no means guaranteed. The opponent was anticipating the Pai player to do a lifting palm, likely. It's a guessing game.
