    Hey all,

Played the latest location test a bit last night, impressions:

    1. Overall, hit boxes have been greatly improved. Far less whiffing of things that whiff in 5 (Think: The K of Sarah's Elbow-K whiffing even on counter hit for the elbow, something you see a lot in 5). You can get delayed things to hit a lot more consistently now than in 5.

    2. Hit effects are very cool. For example, when Taka does his series of low punches, if you are launched your body is knocked back in forth in the air, instead of just floating backwards. I found no fewer than 3 different wall hits as well, depending on how high the float was when the opponent hit the wall.

    3. You can save replays already; I'll post some this weekend.

    4. New item system: Now you can use "base" items and just buy color "mixes" or "dyes." To tweak the colors you need to collect spheres (similar to the previous genkyu system) that you can exchange for the colors. There appears to be more variations on this theme but they are not yet disclosed/available.

    5. Dash and walking speeds appear to have been tweaked. No longer can Vanessa do cheap ass 3K -> walk backwards -> 3K. You can launch her ass if she tries that, just like you could in VF4. Also, for situations where you have medium advantage (+4~6) I could land throw a lot more than in 5, which leads me to think that crouching speeds have been slowed. Not sure what this may mean for fuzzy guard and other defensive techniques.

    6. Couldn't hear the music too well but what I did hear sucked, I hope this isn't the final music (the last location text of 5 also had bare-bones music tracks that weren't completed, so I am holding out hope). What is in there at present sounds as though Steve Vai were contracted to make music for shit 80s softcore porno.

    7. Game speed does feel much faster, not quite Evo/FT fast, but much better than the snail-like pace of 5.

    8. Clash/split is still in the game (I was hoping to see this removed).

    9. Hopefully this will be fixed for the final release, but there was awful slowdown when certain items were equipped (green glowing bracelet, etc.). Slowdown lasted the whole match...

    10. People were playing a helluva lot more than they did for the 5 location test, I saw some people come out who I haven't seen for the last year or so. I can definitely count myself among the excited, which might surprise some people as I was very unenthusiastic about 5 from the outset. Hopefully R can spawn a revival, because if it doesn't, the Japanese arcade scene is likely to die out entirely.

They've still got the debug HUD showing throughout the entire match, right? Hopefully this has something to do with the slowdown.

    Otherwise changes sound great.

I dont think there is no need to worry about the slowdown, they would never release in that condition

    Dave awesome report... Thank you!

Any info on movement? VF5 seemed very stiff in my opinion. Did they improve this in R like EVO/FT where you could move more fluid or zip around via stepping etc?

So I am trying to pin down Jean's Karate form.

It looks like alot or Kyokushin or one of its off-shoots but in the Jean VS Jean video he does come down really low in a Shotokan stance at the begining of the match.

    ?

Well, as a practitioner of Kyokushin, Masutatsu Oyama, the founder of Kyokushin, practiced Shotokan from its founder, Gichin Funakoshi. In any cases, Kyokushin borrowed techniques and stances from Shotokan, also with Goju-ryu.[/size]

heya seka... i'm going to be heading down to tokyo in about a week and a half (school is out for summer break) so ill be heading there from the 25th to the 29th i think. is there a play location in akiba still or has that been taken down?

i'm not really into going to akiba, let alone to go there to play video games, but my bud is coming in from america and he's a big on anime so i'm sure we'll be going there.

    @tribal

the akihabara location no longer has the game, it is only nishi shinjuku's club sega that still has it on test. they've still got normal vf5, tho.

rumor has it that the game may see a proper release by that time, so you may be in luck as it would thus be anywhere.
