Do you still believe in VF5R for consoles?

It did acceptably well on consoles (well PS2). And VF4-FT did extremely well in the arcades in Japan. And VF5R is no slouch in Japanese arcades as well. It's not like 1UP has any raw data they are just speaking from their asses.

Long waits between games is nothing. Between ST and SFIII there were three years but no one cared because ST is timeless. Between 3S and SFIV was ten years but people played 3S and ST still (and some other Capcom games as well).

The difference with VF is that outside of Japan, if we don't get VF5R, we essentially have an inferior version of VF to play for a decade and no one is going to want to do that.

If 2nd Impact and New Challengers were the only versions of SFIII and SFII that we got then hardly anyone would play them.

I wouldn't mind waiting seven or eight years for VF6 as long as I get to play VF5R and VF5FT or whatever. I've been playing ST at least one day a week of my life for the last fifteen years. It took Starcraft 11 years to get a sequel. But during those 11 years everyone got the same version and patches from Blizzard as opposed to just one country getting the latest version of the game.

Spending $1,000 between a PS3, HDTV, and VSHG's for VF5 and having it be a step backwards in the franchise and with no online after never playing 4FT was extremely aggravating. Only to be made worse of course by having to shell out more money on a 360, XBL Gold, and having to solder Hori FS's once an actually acceptable port of VF5 came out. Of course that all had to be thrown out of the window when VF5R was announced and Sega has said ZERO word about bringing the game to consoles.

We have HDR, SFIV, and now KOFXIII, T6BR, Blazblue, and MvC2 coming out this year. Sega needs to get their act together or every VF player outside of Japan is going to move on permanently. I'm not going to go from VF5 to VF6 if there is one but I would gladly stop playing all other fighting games, including ST, if VF5R came out.

Sega just sucks period when it comes to VF. This is the same company that stopped Beat Tribe from selling DVDs and stopped EVO from selling DVDs with the VF4:EVO matches on them from EVO2K4...

^ Not like it matters but it was nine years between 3s and SF4, not ten.

Nah i dont believe. Sega could be possibly stuck in the days where the Arcade Cabinet had the better version and it was cool to go to the arcades. I think people still go to the Arcades in Japan and dont want to spend money on a already released game i guess. For whatever reason I know. one thing Add 5 years to the age you have now, cause thats when they may release another one. some of us will be young adults, some of us will be old men.

hopefully some developer sees this gap as an opportunity.

dont you guys think its silly to not give a console release to a game that has been already made? It's not like we are asking for sega to make a completely new game. We just want what's already in the arcades.

The same thing happened with FT didn't it? Console release is just looking grim and it's a damned shame.

Although there has already been a lot of analysis on this, I can't help but wonder that there are Japanese players who would not go to the arcades if VF5R was on PS3s in Japan. If that is the case, that would cost Sega money right? and if PS3 had online in Japan
it might is cost Sega more money right?

I know everyone says that Japanese luv the arcade, but if they could practice for 5R for free everyday and then go to the arcades only when they mean business wouldn't they do that?

If the arcade for VF suddenly died in Japan, I'm guessing 5R would be on consoles shortly there after /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

Back to the origin, everything is based on how much profit SEGA can get. All I want is SEGA should pay more attention to take care of the players out side of Japan.

I would say R is more quite a bit different than 5 compared to what FT is to EVO. Casual players probably wouldnt be able to tell the difference between FT and evo.

Yeah it is a fucking shame... I don't know if it's true, but it was rumored that there was an early build of FT on console(PS2), but it was dropped for what ever reason. Probably poor sales or something... who knows! Any way it was just rumored, but at things point I guess we will never know.

It really sucks that Sega won't take the time out to just announce something... anything! If we are not getting it then it's easy for me to continue playing VF5 without feeling left out. It would be so much easier to accept that this is all we got and this is all we are going to get....

There is merit to this - I work a lot under John and know that he's very close to some of the SoA higher-ups. During our work discussions, he said SoA employees had a lengthy discussion with him about sales figures and expectations of past and future titles. So if SoA told John that VF5 bombed, well, yeah, that's the way they perceive it for sure. I know he's got good sources.

However, I also know he's not a "VF person" and isn't really up on the history of the series, so he probably doesn't realize as much how VF is primarily a Japanese, arcade series when predicting that "there will never be another VF." /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

What compounds the argument even greater is that Sega has already done the work porting VF5 vanilla to both the PS3 and the 360.

All that needs to be done is to rebuild the initial VF5 code and translate the 5R arcade changes to the PS3 and 360 just as was done for VF5 originally. They have the experience of VF5 to work from for both consoles so this kind of port should be very easy for Sega.

And to go even further, Sega already did this same thing on the previous generation (for PS2 only) when it made VF4 for arcades. Sega ported VF4 to the PS2, then made 4EVO for consoles, and then simultaneously released VF4EVO ver. B for both arcades and consoles from what I remember.

What the hold up is with 5R is just unreal. Keep sending Sega messages but send stuff to Sega of America and Sega of Europe as well.

Go to Sega and register for a Sega Pass and send them a ticket asking when VF5R is going to get its release announcement.

I honestly can't believe how Sega has driven the series into the ground with bad move after bad move. The series had so much momentum with 4 but they have thrown all of it away completely.

    - -
Edit: I don't see how anyone can see VF5 bombed on consoles. It sold 500K on PS3 and 200K on 360 and was credited with helping move PS3s off of the shelves. And all the VSHG/Hori products were sold out as well.

I can believe it. Sega is not one of the smarter publishers out there. That said, the game did bomb- though I think many of the reasons it bombed don't apply right now, and some was self-inflicted stupidity on Sega's part.

The sad thing is I finally got to play this series- with actual people, without having to risk getting deployed, and now I won't see the last game of it. I hate to sound like an emo whiner, but that makes me sad.

Make no mistake about it. VF5 is a masterpiece! Even if we never get 5R we could do high quality tourneys with VF5 for years to come. It would be nice to get an upgrade, but its not
critical if we don't. The important thing is that both next gen consoles have a version of VF. They are a whole lot of titles
that didn't make it to next gen!

Worse comes to worse we could always convince Namco to get rid of the fireballs, Kangeroo and the Panda /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Not any time soon, I agree. Nothing was built in a day. The're really just 'thinking', the're just 4 opinions, and that's not the full story. Instead, SEGA was doing this!

    Without 5R the PS3 owners kind-a-got the short-end.

This is what I have been saying for a while. Comparing R to FT is moot. 'R' is more like EVO. The changes are significant to players of all levels, justifying a new purchase, unlike FT.

Also, those who think it hurts the arcade business, look at GG, 3S and SF4. Even though all of them have been released on consoles, 3S and GG have been in Arcadia's monthly top 10 consistently for years (only recently 3S hasn't shown up, but I'm sure it's still top 20). SF4 is still there even though the console version is actually superior to the arcade one in every way. I'm sure SEGA is aware of that, and their arcade business is the not reason why we haven't seen a console announcement.

I'm gonna wait for Ver. B or Ver. C of R. If there's no console announcement until then, I give up.

Well, the way I see it "R" is like "EVO" was to VF4: We eventually got EVO because the two additional characters (Brad and Goh) changed the dynamic of the game, from a design point of view. Final Tuned however was merely a further refinement that only hardcore fans of the series truly appreciated, let alone knew existed. So the financial impetus to get FT out on consoles just wasn't there for all but us diehards.

If Sega follow their previous pattern with VF5 (Release>upgrade>refinement) then I believe R will one day be released, but then that would eventually leave us high and dry when the refinement phase kicked in where we'd miss out on this generation's VF5 FT.

In all fairness, Sega need to really exceed expectations with the next VF. If they are not releasing R because they make more money off it in the arcades, the only reason they have to release on consoles is if they can get more revenue from the home version, from sales and additional content.

But VF is not a big selling title. They need to make it appealing to the masses and sell a couple of millions copies. Can they do that? I think they can but they need to work harder on the presentation side of the game, with new DLC and stuff every month.
