Sod it, I'll get the stick.

If you have the money, the VSHG is your best option. If I used the Japanese style sticks (even if I already owned a Hori), I would definitely get the VSHG anyway; based on all of the good things I've heard about it.

    Japanese style?

The Hori RAP isn't Japanese style?

I thought sticks were just sticks. Is there a difference?

The Hori RAP is a Japanese style arcade stick. It has a gum ball stick and Sanwa-style (convex) buttons. Being a Street Fighter player for well over a decade now, I prefer the Happ style arcade sticks (MAS, X-Arcade) for VF, which is the only 3d fighter I play. The only difference is (from the standard SF set up) that my buttons are also convex (Japanese style) on my MAS. So my MAS is kind of a hybrid for VF and SF that works perfectly (for me) for both games.

Ok, what do you mean by 'convex' and what would be the alternative to 'gum ball'?

All the sticks I've seen look the same, unless I'm just missing something.

Oh, and probably another stupid question, but is the stick part in the shape of a square like the RAP or is it an octagon or anything?

    Ev2,

This link should answer all of your questions. As it provides pics and info on the MAS. You'll see the concave and convex buttons; as well as the "non-gumball" stick /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

If you were to plan on playing VF with a US stick, you would need to grab a good converter (there is a lot of junk out there). Check the link to MarkMan's site (in this thread) if that's the case. If you're used to the RAP though, the VSHG is probably your best bet.

    Hey, thanks man.

It looks to me like Convex would be better for VF (at least I would prefer it). Is the VSHG convex?

The buttons on the VSHG are convex, and the buttons are actual Sanwa's; not imitations like the ones on the RAP. The VSHG is basically a considerably better version of a stick you are already familier with.

Just a quick question for those who might know. I have an old elecom ps102usv bought in 2002 or 2003. I've been trying to get it to work with my T4 Hori stick on DR (I'm assuming it won't work on VF5). It won't recognise the stick, only the buttons. I've searched but haven't found a solution to this (not searched very hard admittedly). Have I a chance of using this adapter, or should I just bite the bullet and buy a new one or two.

    Thanks.

    Arcade Stick tested: Regular HRAP
Guitar from Guitar Hero worked in the PS3 menu, but I cannot test it in-game, since the game is not possible to play on an EU PS3.

    Uses Select+Up as PS-Button - works well

    Tested on VF5 and T5DR
I can only say that I'm really happy with it, 5 Akira Knee's in a row - I'm a stick-newb. Wolf Perfect Giant Swings from neutral - they normally requires a dash in, N, HCF+P+G.

    Consistent EWGF's in T5DR

Works with PS2 Games: Tekken 4 and Tekken 5
9 out of 10 EWGF in a row attempts worked in T5, remember I suck with sticks.

From my point of view, being a total stick newb being able to pull off Akira Knee 5times succesfully in a row, and being able to step in T5DR as I usually do - All in all the converter is LAG FREE.

Hey RikidoZan, where do you buy that adaptor?

Also, can you please check to see if this allows the stick to be used on a PC (MAME)without any major lag?

I don't think so. I haven't tried though, but the instruction manual says nothing about being compatible with PC. I bought mine from gameseek.co.uk, it took like forever for them to send it, but it was worth the wait =)

Any word on the Pelican yet? There must be lag in the Elecom, because I'm having a helluva time with the fastest input Giant Swing (and the fastest input /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif hit/throw for that matter); which I was about 98% consistent with in VF4.

The Pelican adapter will first be released in May.

I strongly suggest that you get a
    Logic 3 PS2 to PS3 converter (PS915)

These are lag-free with both Arcade Sticks and PS pads.

I believe the Pelican is also lag free with both of those. The official release date according to EBgames website is now May 7. How long did it take you to actually get you Logic 3 btw?

damn, sorry to have suggested the elecom 201 to for you to find out later it has lag. but just to let everyone know, gamestop has the new pelican's in stock on their website. i tried calling up all the local shops in my area but they all said they wouldn't be stocking them or taking reserves for them which i thought was kind of funny. anyways i ordered a pair with overnight shipping so when i get them i'll try to get in a review.

got my converters today and they work great. too be honest i never played on a vshg, hrap3, or the actual vf5 cabinets to know truly what no lag feels like but i do feel it is a bit more responsive then the elecom 101's i was using for vf5 and comparable in responsiveness of fast inputs to the hfs3 a friend had.

i tried holding the stick for about a minute each in all directions in vf5 training mode to check for directions sticking like some were having in that other converter.

there is also a "ps" button on the converter that can be used to get to the quit game/assign controller port/etc. menu. if your stick has an analog button, it will function the same as the "ps" button. the only difference it has with the "ps" button on a sixaxis is that it cannot turn ON your ps3 if it is in standby.

the instruction paper included with the converter said it would work with any playstation based controller even if it didn't have an analog button. you would just use the "ps" button on the converter to sync with your stick/controller so this is good news for those with an hrap/mas/namco/acii or other custom stick. i couldn't test this out because all the sticks i have left are official psone dualshock based.

i also tried plugging the converter hooked up to a ps2 dualshock controller to my computer and in the control panel it read as "PLAYSTATION(R) 3 Controller" and was registering all input commands. i don't have any computer games so i can't test if it lags.

feel free to ask any questions or suggest any tests you would like me to run. hopefully this is the last converter any of us will have to buy. :p

What stick are you using? I'm wondering if the PC will recognize the stick (I have a HRAP2) when using this converter. Do you have MAME that you can try this on?

Also, maybe a bit off-topic, but does Guitar Hero work now using this converter?

i'm using a sanwa modded tekken 5 stick with an official psone pcb.

i just installed and tried melty blood re-act on my laptop and it worked fine. sorry but i don't have mame.

it should recognize your hrap 2 though since the ps button has no need.

this converter has a switch that can be moved from normal (regular games) to gh (which is guitar hero 2). the instructions say that star power can only be activated by pressing the select button and hammer ons/pulloffs cannot work. supposedly guitar hero 1 works fine though. i don't have either game so i can't test it.

Has anyone tried the Pelican converter yet? Is it lagfree? Also, i have one of those old, grey Namco sticks (like the one in this picture) and i am kind of freaked out because i have heard that they dont work with the PS2 convertes, but its the only stick i have, and i dont want to be stickless when i get my PS3 and VF5 in a week.
    Thanks ^^
