Hit Sparks In VF5US A Step Backward???

Uhhh no he wouldn't. Max knows the charm of VF even if he plays it casually. So I wouldn't say that he'll be on board. He'll say that the game plays too much like tekken at that point and lost what made it special.

 

It obviously plays like FS did since it's the same gameplay with new graphics.

It's just that the new hit sparks clutter the screen. It was added solely to make newcomers think it's more like Tekken.

In terms of damage and realism Virtua Fighter US should have went more in the direction of that game.

 

I personally don't like those heavy sparks especially it can easily distract player to do the CH hit check, but eventually I guess we all will get used to.

The other drawback I notice is that US doesn't have that foreground transparency by certain camera angle. It causes confusion when characters near the wall, or corners, tend to do wall setups. I really whish this can be fixed by a patch, or some kind of option to make player to choose.

 

I played VF for over a decade its never needed Hit Sparks. to explain hits, blocks, counter hits, etc. I've played UFC games for over a decade they've never needed hit sparks. And the UFC games are more complex and have a 1000 times the number of new comers playing the game than VF has

 

The steps backwards for VF were the removal of MTE, DM P+K, OM,K, OM,P. Standing Diagonal throws and throw clash. But I would expect a 25 + year VF player who doesnt know frame data to harp on hit-sparks....

 

au contraire. I absolutely know frame data after 25+ years. Not much of a choice actually(especially after all this time) I just happen to believe that knowledge of it is not necessary to play, enjoy, and dominate virtua fighter matches. imo frame analysis takes the fun out of the game. I also know all of the sound frequencies for all of the notes on a piano (yep I play classical/jazz piano) But as I play, I try not to think about 440 hz, 880 hz, 200 hz etc wave frequencies (even though it would give me a distinct advantage under certain circumstances)

Here's what I do know after 25+ years of playing VF. Every VF I've ever played had significant offline modes beyond Arcade mode and VS mode. No VF I've ever played has ever had Hit Sparks.

If this VF5US has no offline modes beside Arcade and VS mode, and it has Hit Sparks, Then VF5US is a major departure from what I know and love as VF, notwithstanding the removal of MTE, DM P+K, OM,K, OM,P of course

At the moment, I'm playing UFC games UFC Undisputed 3, and UFC 4 and there are no Hit Sparks anywhere to be found

 

To dominate you need to know frame data. Players at higher levels won't lose to a player who doesn't care about frames.

So annoying. All you do is write essays instead of playing. It was no different when FS came out almost ten years ago.

 

This is only a visual fuckery.

It won't affect the gameplay in any away.

That's why they need to add an option to turn it ON/OFF, so that everybody wins.

 

UFC sells itself as a sports game so of course it's not going to have any special effects like hit sparks. It also has a huge recognizable brand which effectively acts as a marketing tool to sell the game. You can't really compare the sales to VF or any other game really, except for other sports games.

 

The hit sparks are here just to make it look a bit different of VF5FS.​

But it's obvious that some VF fans would not like it... Maybe a turn ON/OFF option will come soon.

Not really comparing sales here. I'm really talking about what new comers need to learn a new fighting game. Virtua Fighter is very deep and there is a lot to learn. But the UFC games are deeper, far more to learn. And VF has VFDC with a wealth of information for new comers. UFC doesn't have the same kind of resource, but yet they don't have to resort to Hit Sparks as an excuse to teach new comers when a counter hit has happened. The claim is that the Hit Sparks in VF5US give new comers information about the kind of hit or block that has occurred and how much damage has just been dealt. What BS!

Yes you're right there is no comparison between the sizes of the FGC for the UFC games and any of the 3D arcade fighters. But UFC is moving into new territory with different Arenas and is drawing an even bigger audience.

Mr. Po, please chill out, dude! Chances are Sega is going to put out an option to turn them OFF but during the VF Japan Esports show, it will be mandatory to turn them ON for viewers' enjoyment and eye candy.

So more likely than Not, pro players will have to play using the Hit Sparks ON.
VF is still VF whether with "Hit Sparks" or Not. It is still the same great game that plays completely different from DOA, Tekken, or Soul Calibur.

Actually the absence of hit sparks was one of the distinguishing and signature characteristics of the Virtua Fighter series. The fighting engine, the character roster and the visuals are the ingredients that make up the game that we all enjoy playing. If the roster was butchered, lets say by dropping Akira, Kage, Lau, Shundi , Wolf, Pai, and Jeffrey, then it would no longer be considered VF by many. If the fighting engine dramatically changed (lets say by dropping paper-scissors-rock paradigm) but the roster and visuals stayed the same then it would no longer be considered VF by many. Likewise if Tekken Style Hit Sparks are added to the visuals after proudly and deliberately going more than 20 years with No Hit Sparks, well then VF5US might no longer be considered real VF by many.

Surely a chap as smart as yourself can see this right??? That adding Hit Sparks to Virtua Fighter is offensive and an insult to not all but many in the VF community. If you try real hard you should be able to at least imagine this sentiment right?

And to your point, it may play differently than DOA, SC, and Tekken. But the addition of HIt Sparks causes it to visually and graphically move within Tekken's shadow So close that it might even be called Tekken Lite. (Yup just because of a few HIt Sparks)

That's a very bad approach. There would be no drama if SEGA included an ON/OFF option. Blame SEGA, not the fans who don't like it.
