Yeah I am extremely passionate about VF. It's like a child to me I guess. I have played many, many fighting games through my life and have always thought nothing could be better than Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct and such, but that all changed in a blink of an eye when I befriended a Japanese guy by the name of Hiro(this is not his full name we just call him Hiro for short). He had just moved to NYC to attend college and happen to be at one of the NYC arcades while I was there. I had just gotten my butt kick in street fighter and I was taking a break just walking around the arcade. They had a VF2 machine and although I never played it, I have always thought VF is a cool game. I played VF1 a lot, but during that time they were not many players so I just let the game pass me by. Although I played pretty much every fighting game, I have always thought that the ideal fighting game would be a game where none of the characters had projectiles and such. So in terms of Street Fighter and others, I often picked skill characters that did not have a projectile. To me the whole concept of fighting game is 2 people fighting using martial arts or just brawling. What do you need projectiles for? It's just so unnatural! With that said, Hiro happened to be playing VF2 with Lau and that was the first time I had seen VF played the right way and on a very extreme high level. I think I stood there watching him play for almost 1 hour and finally I just introduced myself and asked him if he could show me more stuff but with other characters. At the time his English was poor(it's probably better than mines now /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif ), but it was amazing that through the love of gaming and VF we were able to immediately bond and understand each other very well. Hiro took myself and many others under his wing and taught us how to play the RIGHT way.

All the veteran NYC players(not Denkai) owe everything in terms of there skill and passion for VF to Hiro. He became our personal VF trainer and molded us into the strong hardcore competitive players that we are today. Hiro's VF days are pretty much over, but from time to time when he visits we kind of force him to play a little. Although he never gets to play VF while he is here in the states, or visiting Japan. He somehow seems to retain a good amount of his strength just from reading random articles about VF and it's forever evolving system. Natural talent I guess, but none the less it seems that the passion he had to give up to pursue his studies somehow still flows through me and I guess that's what I am always trying to pass on and share with others.

 

Anytime you want to share that passion with me and pass on that same gift of knowledge, i am all ears /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
I want nothing more than to get better, but it seems to be seriously slow going. which is okay, as long as it IS going.

I think i owe It to my mother cause if it was'nt for her making me baby sit my little cousin after school and result to play\ing playing VF2 for Saturn for hours on in i'd be lost.(Not to mention the Countless amounts of Dollars i spend in Playland and The Original Broadway Arcade back in the day.
Damn i wish i still had the time to burn like that again.

NYC still has Chinatown Fair arcade but they haven't had a VF setup for over 3 years and it was VF4 ver.B.

We had a dual cabinet to play VF4:FT since '04 which moved around from place to place until late '06.

I'm almost back to Sentinel, but I haven't been playing ranked as much over the past couple of days.

 

I almost passed Defender but got smacked down to half-bar. I'll either be Protector or 9th dan by the end of the week!

 

I got knocked down to 1st Kyu but recently got my 1st Dan back.

I just want to say thank you for those Kanji explanations, and for pointing out there is a repeat pattern to them. I find the derivation and meaning of these words very interesting.

Question: In your example, is "Protector's" meaning into English "king Fist"? Or is this a meaning that SEGA/AM2 added for a western audience to give it a nice sounding name? I suppose what I'm asking is: In Japanese is the meaing of King Fist, just King Fist? Or does it have a nice name like "Protector"?

does raider increase rank bar from beating 10th dans, just curious. i know hunter does. Does raider increase from beating masters? thanks guys.

 

A Raider's bar isn't affected by a 10th dan nor a Master.

Just a mention but Masters are only affected by 10th dans.
