Hello. I'm just new to this site and also new to playing VF competitively. Though I have been playing VF casually since VF2. I'm from the Philippines.

    I'm using Lei-Fei as my main. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Hello, I'm relatively new to VF - I mean I've played almost all of them but always casually. I played the original VF, and bought VF4 Evo for PS2, but got frustrated with it and ended up trading it in.

However, I decided to buy VF5 Online for Xbox 360 and am having a lot of fun with it, but I'm having some difficulty getting past "button-mashing" style of play.

Perhaps my favorite character is Eileen, but one thing I have problem with is the execution of some of her moves. For example, some of her best moves involve the qcf or qcb movement. However, trying to use the d-pad on the wireless Xbox 360 controller to execute these moves is very iffy at best.

What do you guys use for control? Should I use the thumbstick instead? Is there a particular controller with a better d-pad for fighting games? Should I pony up the dough for an arcade stick that would offer the "authentic" experience?

Also, what do you recommend for "training techniques" (for lack of a better word) - I'm playing through the quest, but seems like like mashing is still doing the job too well so I don't feel like I'm getting any better. I also tried playing Online, but it seems like I'm either getting my ass handed to me or I get involved in a mashfest with another new player.

Also, if quest is too easy, try putting it on "Expert Mode" and/or try playing against higher rank characters. Don't worry about winning or losing and test out moves to determine if the move is good to use or not in various situations.

    Welcome to the forums.

No, I'm not. I've invested a lot of time to learn to play it competitively and seriously. Unfortunately, we don't have any VF arcades here. People here prefer Tekken more. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif And I also got the PS3 version of VF5 so there's no online play for me.

    Thanks for the welcome anyways.

I play on PS3. VF5 is the only game I own because I hate FPS.
Taka needs to come back! you don't know what you got till it's
gone! Whats the word on the EVO 2k North tournament in 2008. Is
VF5 going to be there? If so what are the dates and when/where do
    I register to compete?
I came here to become a better player.

Hello all! This is my first time with any Virtua Fighter, and I hope to improve enough to have fun online. No real competitive goals.
Picked up Brad cause he's badass and his profile is funny. Also looked at Wolf and Blaze since I take pro wrestling classes but I sucked with both.

New to VF, hoping to get up to speed.

Seeing as how Myke was _almost_ good enough to beat me at Virtual On back in the day I reckon his site might have a few tips worth thinking about.
