Tony I'm actually with you on hoping the thread gets locked. I love talking politics as much as the next guy, but it doesn't seem like we are able to have nice rational discussions about differing view points. The conversation degrades into a series of youtube videos that are each 10min long, and I'm not going to spend all that time watching videos. I just don't have it to waste like that. I'd rather read a summary.

Anyhoo here's hoping this gets locked.

I'd hate to see this thread get locked, if people like to talk politics then they should do so here. It's been around for years now and now it should go because of 1 person? I think if everyone loves this thread and only 1 rotten apple (tengu) is the reason for it's degrading state then that rotten apple should be removed. That way, the root of the problem is taken care of and everyone can continue posting here normally.

When I say remove I don't mean banning him btw, more like just this thread specifically. This is my suggestion from observing this thread for the past long while, it can't be denied that the quality of this thread took a massive dump with tengu.

 

I was banned for excessive trolling, not necessarily from back-seat moderating. I was merely just proposing an idea on how to save this thread, I respect any decision the mods make.

I never, EVER, said that I discussed politics in this thread so I don't know what you're talking about. I also do not consider my post to be off-topic as the last page has been about the subject of this thread being locked.

I just think it's silly that it has to go to that lengths just because your brain can't stop pissing garbage in this thread.

Tengu you're not looking far back enough. This thread was around way before you started posting in it, and in those days I posted too. I just dont' like Paul, that is my political opinion. Taking shots at him is talking politics.

I will not get drawn into petty squabbles though. I'm not about to go into a back and forth through a forum with someone just for the sake of arguing. I'm not a mod so I can't really say how they should do they're jobs, and it would seem odd if we just had one person banned from posting in the thread.

Also tengu when it gets down to it, I really just don't care all that much about your opinion of american politics. You're Swedish or something, and I don't expect europeans to really understand american ways of thinking. Yes our culture has proliferated across the world, but that doesn't make the world americans, or experts of american way of life. That's why I don't argue with you about your specific opinions because I know they'll never have any bearing on who is put into my office since you can't vote.

When voters have opinions like yours I will argue with them because they will impact my future.

Again I've had plenty of political opinions in this thread. My whole life isn't dedicated to making your life a living hell Tengu.

Obama is gonna get my vote for two reasons:
#1. The Tea Party, umm, I mean the GOP can't/don't/won't have a better option come election time.
#2. Obama has killed more officials of Al Qaeda in the last two and a half years than were eliminated during the entire Bush administration.

Actually it isn't odd at all, it's pretty common and practiced in many forums. Some users are great but just don't belong in a specific section of the site so they get permanently removed from there. It's a great way of dealing with the situation instead of outright banning said user.

 

Why can't everyone just ignore the person in question?

Post and discuss politics to your hearts content, why not? In the meanwhile you can continue to * choose* your level of engagement with any other member of this forum.

Yeah I enjoy reading peoples opinions in here from time to time but I pretty much never click any videos, you shouldn't have to rely on them to make a point when you're free to post your own opinions.

 

My hypothesis is he doesn't have the ability to get across his thoughts through words so defers to his videos as a means to replace actually putting forth his own views. It's a lazy and ineffective way to make a point because what I my glam from a video will be different than what he thinks it to mean.

For instance I see foxnews and know it's not real news. While he seems to put actual stock in their opinions, I mean propaganda.
