Watch any sort of MMA program and you should see commercials for it, I have seen them every show lately.

Give it time- I have a feeling the game will sell in a trickle for a while, and will help future sales. The problem is VF has never been followed up on the same system- except for the Saturn, which sold donkey crap in the US, and the PS2, where it did well.

So I think VF5 Evo will sell better then VF5.

Another issue that may be keeping sales down, is that a lot of people I see on other forums are interested, but they're waiting to pick it up after the inevitable price drop.

Lol, and you's didn't expect this?

    Its definitely the cheesy characters!

"I'm TWICE the man I use to be!"

If you didn't know the moveset for this character, would you really want to associate with him? Furthermore, can you really take this game seriously? Seriously, there should be a "no talking" option/customisation for this game...

On the otherhand, Tekken, DOA and MK characters/opening movies do not make you cringe... or at least not to the extent where i enternally remember it.

Its probably a Japanese thing that people love the awesomeness of someone cheesing enthusiastically

I wouldn't consider VF5 a high profile title. Fighting games in general, especially VF are what I consider a "niche" title.

Um, I find the Tekken chars cheesier then the VF chars.

VF does fit more to Japanese tastes- I can see that.

I think the real problem is lack of recognition, and well, lack of imbalance. Americans don't know which char to whore, and that confuses the hell out of them.

All successful US fighters are heavily imbalanced.

lol......of course.....because fighting with a giant panda bear called kuma and a robotic ninja from outer space is so 'in' with modern youth culture....:)

I wonder how the presence of DLC is going to affect the profits. Could Sega sell lower unit numbers on Xbox360, but end up with a better yield?

Also, (and this is fantasy land now) I wish Sega would release VF4:FT as DLC, perhaps for $10-20, and use the profits from that to finance future projects. Add a $10 online expansion pack to that (as has been shown to work) and I wonder if they could do reasonably well out of it.

One thing that will affect profits is international sales- it's not like much in the way of localization is needed for VF5- and errors wouldn't even bother people much- unless it was like "VICTOLY" or something.

Yeah, but in each of those other games, there always a few characters that stands out and that you'd want to associate with more than everyone else from every other game.

If your not familiar with the hardcore environment, you tend to buy games because there's a character that your interested in. How else can you explain Sonic/DragonBallZ/Pokemon's high sales compared to stuff like Jet Set Radio, Panzer Dragoon, Okami?

    licensing and kid-friendly.

One thing that would be interesting to see is the char distribution for VF5 on XBL. I'm guessing no char would be over 12%, maybe Jacky or Lei-Fei, but Lei-Fei's more a function of perceived scrub-friendliness.

I'm guessing the least used chars are Lion, Vanessa, and Sarah.

    PSN:
    lastmonk
54,000 people playing VF in the US.

Can we get them together for a gathering?

If we add the PS3 only (VFers) to that number how many
    potential fighters in the US?

Can you imagine if even half of those who have bought the game
really got into the VF scene.

    Let's see, 54,000 times approx 60.00

    $3,240,000

    Well, I guess that's no Halo3,
but then Jazz doesn't sell as well as Hip Hop, but for
some reason the record producers put out new Jazz albums every year.... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

Couldn't agree more about the cheesiness!!! It seems to have gotten worse in each version. In VF5 it got to the point where I'm cringing about almost every English-speaking character. Lion, Sarah and Wolf are among the worst offenders, followed close by Brad and Jacky. It's so embarrassing... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

And GOD do I hate Eileen's stupid giggling and retarded hand movements in one of her winning animations. But that's another topic I guess.

That said, I don't agree that the overall cheesiness (is that a word? English is not my main language) is what makes it sell less than we as hardcore fans expect. It's just --as others have said-- that fighting games are a niche and VF is the most difficult and demanding one in the genre.

That AND the fact that they have just implemented online play way after the other available titles is IMO a huge reason for people to have lost interest in the franchise. Hopefully that will be changed with VF5:Online. At least for me it was the reason why I went running to get an Xbox 360, having passed on the PS3 altogether because VF5 didn't have online (and the f@#$%^& console was $600) /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

I see quite a good amount of Lions all the time when I go online. The characters I see the less are Aoi and Sarah. And everybody seems to be Pai and Lei-Fei /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

I have really only come across like 5 different Pai's since I have been playing online. Who I don't see is Jeffery, like ever. Very few Goh's as well.

The most popular characters I think are Lei Fei and Eileen online. There are a lot of Vanessa and Lion players too.

Very few Jeff, Aoi, and Sarah players.

I see a lot of Eileen, Pai and Lei Fei players.

It's always one big high-low string after another with all of them though.

I don't see many Wolf players or many Jeff players.

I have seen literally one El Blaze player since I started online.

I have played tons of El Blaze players. I'd say I see as many Blazes as I do Jacky's.
