hmmm... in the city i live in, its all about VF5. GG and T5dr aren't that popular. and when i go to akihabara and check out the arcades there, VF5 rules too (as far as fighting games goes). i really dont see how T5dr and GG got a better ranking.

I agree with EmpNova as to why Online VF is available to US and Eauropean countries. US Game magz have been raving about Online capabilities on games since the capability has been realized on consoles. I don't think Sega's "experimenting". The ports are there, why not use it? If you don't want to play online, then don't. Heck, I'll love to give it a try here, but the only game online here are the numerous RPGs and music-rhythm blah...

As for the community, I don't think Yu Suzuki sees it as a popularity contest. Heck, whatever ranking's out there, he's got his followers.

I think one of the reasons that VF isn't as "popular" as other games is because of it's realism. People like their fantasy with their chunky-chested chicks, demons and such. It may seem stupid, but all those who make fanstuff out of characters-which includes your yaoi, the fanfics, character shrines, plush toys etc- is somehow advertising the game, which is good for the company. People care for the characters.

I don't think VF should start putting unicorns or men who looks like girls (bishounen or bishies) or increase all the female's bra sizes... They just have to make the characters more interesting. Even gamers like a good story and better characterization (work on the pick up lines). I can see they're trying, starting with VF 4's customization and VF5's more interesting story.

That's if you want more people in the community, more people to play it (continously) and higher popularity ranks. I'm not assuring you that all those who get interested and will character shrines will become ultimate hardcore VF gamers. Not everyone in the Tekken/DOA/*insert game here* are hardcore players, they just happen to like this and that of a game, most especially the character.

As for me, I prefer thinking of VF as something "exclusive" rather than "less popular". I like it the way it is, and I think that if VF was "easier", some of you guy won't even be here...
