Yo KrsJin, you played me earlier, I was that black Akira with the red eyes lol. Man you wrecked me. I've never had real human competition ever in VF till now, thank god for online play. Currently 71 out of 82 matches won /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif (although that's not saying much since most people are new to the game online).

And damn what sweet netcode this is. Sure there's a few frames of delay in the input, but it's nowhere as bad as 3s was on the Xbox, and by all means playable. For me, fuzzies and almost everything intricate is still retained. I can even pull off the knee half the time (though I guess that's muscle memory, but a good thing -- I didn't have to adjust it for online play).

An easy 10/10. Great job Sega, for a first effort with VF online, you surely nailed it. Please don't botch it up with some retarded lobby system or customizable match settings in ranked for VF5: Evo or VF6! Those additions surely segregated DOA4's online play and thus the tournament standard (not that it had one at the time) was never followed

    Ok my thoughts

Game is awesome no doubt. Loading isnt to bad, Memory Card Saving, better Quest mode and of course Online play

So my 1st experience online wasnt that bad but far from perfect.
I disconnected my router and went the straight cable to system route and it was much better

As long as I played a 4 ping connection.

I then played Junosyth from Colorado and had my first great game.
Every game to that point was newbie central and very distracting especially when you mix it up with lag play.

After that I went to player match and played La Akira. All I can say is that it played perfect. It was really like he was next to me.

Then I played a bit with Jerky in Boston and again it was pretty damn good as well. Not as good as the LA Akira games but better than good but not great.

If this doesnt turn around the NA scene nothing will.

Also as a tip. I met some pretty nice new players and I sent out a mass message inviting them to this site.

Hopefully all these players can stick with it.

Heh, I don't mind losing at all /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif But in comparison to the first night when I played against Xleague000000112342 it was terrible. Even playing against someone in Norway was better. It's not unplayable, but it's certainly not cricket.

Last night I had LOT of matches against US people and the connection was surprisingly good, almost flawless at times o_O

I got much worse connection playing one finnish dude :D..

    <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">
See, this is what I don't understand: fuzzy @ -6 requires essentially no timing, other than being able to buffer crouchdash before your recovery ends. I could see fuzzy at lower disadvantages not working correctly because your timing for standing up was off, but if -6 fuzzy doesnt work, how does anything at all work? </div></div>
Shoud you get lag, its also difficult to initiate fuzzy guard since you are not sure when the attack connects after which you should fuzzy, hitconfirmation what you see on screen might be delayed. Thats what I meant earlier by "blindfolded". Its like you have to 'guess' when to input stuff according to your own earlier input timing. When connection is good I have gotten most or Akiras combos down, although not all the max damage ones. From online performance so far I think it doesnt affect combos.

    My first impressions:

The gamma is definitely messed up just like the demo. With the same cable, same monitor, same settings, ps3 looks fine, xbox dashboard and other games look fine, VF5 looks dark and blotchy - e.g. jeffs face looks like a shadow w/ no detail.

Xbox pad is so worthless even compared to ps2 pad that I can't bring myself to try online play until i get the vshg hacked.

That is because of the fact that the session are already full if you enter. Considering that it takes no mere 10 secs if you create a session, and someone else joins it, it's normal.

This is no bug - it's just that the host's session is full.

Yep. Most stores got it in on the 31st. I'd imagine a ton of people are gonna be on this weekend.

Have not played online yet(want to get combos down so that I don't have to think about it anymore), but loading is a little faster than the demo in my opinion. Dojo and quest has helped me to get down the basics of the game. I will try to go online maybe tonight if I feel lucky, but definitely by the weekend since the AI can get too predictable sometimes even for a new guy like me.

for as little as i played online yesterday, so far the experience has been the smoothest i've had with any online fighter to date. at first i was at least a little disappointed in the lack of a lobby system. personally i really enjoy the social "quarter-up" aspect that brings. however, if that's the trade off for having apparently lag free (almost) matches and actually getting to play the game pretty to it's full capacity (i.e. not having to adjust your juggle game to allow for shitty latency) then so be it. there's always the option to rematch in unranked.

that being said, there's also no excuse now for the fact that i'm officially 0-4 online in VF5. well, other than my apparent lack of skill. hopefully that will change soon.

...that is the skill, not the excuse.

I dont know if people are aware of it but apparently when you search for a quick match/custom match and the game offers you opponents, the "L" icon next to their name signifies latency looks like. The greener the icon is, the better the connection. Worst latency shows up as grey icon. The game also automatically offers opponents with best latency I think.

Agreed, this really is the best shot VF has had to take off in the states. Even for vetran VFers, I've noticed it sparking interest in them more because they now have access to all sorts of different players, even if the medium is online.

And you're brilliant for sending messages to people to bring em here haha.

never posted on here, but i just copied and pasted a post from srk.

btw, i consider myself an intermediate player, so anyone correct me if im wrong.
    ----
scrubkilling tactic #1 aka, how to rack up instant wins:

    round begins.
    dash back.
let them whiff a bunch of stupid highs and mids.
    wait for the recovery time.
do a knockdown round house ( down+k+g usually).
as soon as they fall, otg or whatever its called in vf talk (up-towards/up +p).
    let them not get up.
score a second otg if possible.
when they wake up, stay at a distance where theyre relectant to do a wake up attack.
as soon as they stand up, knockdown roundhouse, rinse repeat.

about 3/4 of games i played last night were won using that strategy. and whenever someone finally figured out to start blocking low, id take my lau and launch them with an eeeeYYAHHHHHHHH, pppk. not that everyones like that. actually, most of the people who were decent seemed to be akiras who could nail their precise timing combos.

btw, the tactic above should work regardless of lag, as long as you can master your spacing.

how to avoid being a scrub tactic #1 aka mechanics:

    (requires a ps2)
go back to gamestop (best buy might work). shell out 4.99 or 9.99. purchase vf4 evo. and spend your day in training. youll learn essential mechanics like:

-how to wake up, and wake up options
-MULTIPLE THROW ESCAPE (very important when playing non noobs)
    -quck recovery and evasion
    -how to beat down+p
    -how to hit confirm
-closed vs open stance (i dont even have this down completely yet)

reading faqs and virtuafighter.com will help. but to have actual in game mechanics training is what got me and a few friends into vf in the first place. this training mode captures what reading doesnt- actual timing practice. it even comments on what you're doing wrong in your timing (albeit its sometimes not so helpful)

just by 2 cents in trying to get people out of the pit and into totally enjoying this game. personally, i think guilty gear is a great game, but because of its massive learning curve and lack of in game mechanics training, its turned a lot of potential fans away. vf4 evo does the opposite.

I played for the first time yesterday. Its definitely a lot better than I expected. I'll write up my final thoughts by the weekend. Glad to play with all of you and my apologies for not being to talkative. Oh by the way if anyone is looking for me I'm using a whole new live account. I just couldn't resist having my ring name. Send all invites to konjou akira. I'll be on later tonight around 9pm.

I am relatively impressed as well by how well the game *can* perform online. It is a little frustrating to lose to a scrub because you can't even dodge due to latency but that has only happened to me a couple times and if I choose my opponents then it really isn't a problem. So far the only poster I've seen/played against that I am aware of is JunoSynth. Good fun, add me to your list if you'd like - same name as on these forums. I'll have to get Jesse and Boyd up online as well so MN can have couple more representatives.

P.S. When exactly did Omaha Jeffry become Konjou Akira? I know it was some time ago. Remember playing his Jeffry at a VF3 tourney held up here in MN years ago.

I was also shocked at how amazing the online play is. I'm very disappointed in the customizations, there aren't that many more options than there were in VER B. Plus the loss of mix and match ABCD costumes from ARC really hurts the creativity. Overall I'm having a blast with the complete version of VF5.

I am very suprised with how well this game plays online, so far 4 matches and none of them have lagged. The Xbox pad is the only thing I have at the moment..and if I get arcade stick its gonna take me a sec to learn to play with that, other than that best fighting game online imo.

I'm really impressed with the online as well. I've had a few matches with a bit of lag, but nothing even remotely as annoying as DOA4. My biggest complaint with the online is there is no lobby and there is no option to replay your opponent. While this keeps the arcade authenticity in line, if I'm playing with a friend I dont want to have to re-invite 40 matches in a row.

I hear you! Evades are a big part of my game and I wasn't really able to use them online. BTW, we played a couple of matches and you COMPLETELY destroyed me, in fact yours is the only name I remember from last night precisely for that, hehe...
    Cheers.
